Science & Technology

All classes experience one lesson of science per week. During this time there is a particular focus on one of the four main areas of study undertaken in Term Themes

All classes also have the opportunity to use our Lego Technics kits – we can apply simple electric circuits to our ENGINEERING masterpieces and create working models.

Science classes are based on the skills and processes component of the NSW Department Policy of Science and Technology and includes :-

  • investigating
  • reporting
  • observing / comparing
  • modelling / designing
  • applying to real life situation

Sample Units

Biology :- “Out of the Blue”
What is life really all about? How has it evolved and diversified? We explore the one last great frontier - the ocean and unravel the mysteries of the deep, discovering mysterious creatures that live there.

We enter the world of the marine biologist as we explore the fantastic diversity of life on the Great Barrier Reef. We dissect fish and discover their adaptations to an underwater world.

Geology :- “What on Earth’s Happening”

Mount Ruapeau, New Zealand 3 Volcanoes in the Taupo Volcanic Zone, New Zealand

Have you ever wondered how mountains and continents were formed, how earthquakes are caused and why volcanoes erupt. We collect and classify rocks according to a rock cycle.

Physics :- “Heavens Above”
We find out how to create micro galaxies here on Earth and how to change the Universe at will. We explore our galaxy, use star charts and analyse light. We test ideas and design and use a model of a telescope and learn how to find out more about space.

Chemistry:- “SliMe”
Work out what’s, happening as things froth and bubble. We investigate the chemistry of everyday substances and check out how they behave. Activities include making mystery powders, gooey polymers, acids and bases and colourful chemistry.
